Bard, Samuel.

This two-volume bound manuscript set contains the text of lectures Dr. Samuel Bard delivered at Columbia College [formerly King’s College; now Columbia University] in the 1790s. Covering the fields of natural philosophy and natural history, lectures include topics such as astronomy, nature, or optics. Many hand drawn diagrams illustrate particular points.

Conservation Treatment

Measurements: 12 ¾ x 8 7/8 x 1 7/8
Volumes feature identical half-leather bindings with Spanish marbled paper sides with sewn on vellum tapes. The boards are mostly detached. The sewing is largely intact but both volumes have several detached, torn leaves and both are unpaginated.

Treatment: Dry cleaning of textblock, leather rebacking, including the consolidation and refurbishment of leather spine, edges and corners; rebuild and recover damaged board corners. Repair and replace all detached leaves. Protective polyester wrapper and custom cloth-covered, drop-spine box for each volume.
